Join East London Cares and Joel O’Donoghue for five free creative movement workshops.
These workshops will be led by Joel and are a mixture of contemporary dance technique exercises, creative challenges, demonstrations of past works and discussions about dance/music/whatever-people-fancy-talking-about, over cups of tea.
Each session will begin and end with a few warm-up and cool-down exercises that can be done from either standing or sitting, and focuses on body alignment, increasing mobility within joints and improving spatial awareness. During the creative part of the sessions, the class will look back at previous dance works across generations to reinterpret them.
About Joel O’Donoghue
Joel O’Donoghue is a dancer, choreographer and fitness instructor who specialises in contemporary dance and physical theatre (which, in other words, is like ballet-gone-wrong, and clowning, but with slightly less make-up). The works he creates are both beautiful and bizarre, and above all else are a celebration of music (and people that dance to music).
No previous dance experience is necessary and the different exercises can be done from standing or sitting. All levels are welcome.
East London Cares Dances with Joel O’Donoghue is a part of St Margaret’s House’s REACH Online project and is supported and funded by Arts Council England, the Heritage Fund and the London Community Response Fund.
