Looking for something festive to do this Saturday? Local primary school children will be hanging handmade decorations on Roman Road’s Christmas Tree outside the library in Gladstone Place this Saturday.
Children from three schools, Old Ford Primary, Malmesbury Primary, and Olga Primary will adorn the tree with tokens at noon with the event lasting until 3pm.
Given the current restrictions, the public are asked to maintain social distancing at all times, but are still invited to come and admire the festive makeover taking place.
The day has been organised by Roman Road Trust, a community development organisation.
The event will be a welcome reminder of the joys a shared community experience can bring. Rosie Vincent, Managing Director for Roman Road Trust said it will be ‘a lovely way to connect people and reminds us that we’re all still a community.’
‘After the year we’ve had,’ she continues, ‘it’s really important to remind people to take pride in where they live and to give people a chance to participate in social events. For what we can do right now, I think this will be as good as we can give.’
Indeed, the day will be extra special given the restrictions on festive gatherings this year ue to the pandemic. ‘This year’s been pretty awful really! But hopefully those who come on Saturday can wish each other well for the New Year and its nice to contribute to that.’
The children’s homemade decorations will bring some festive cheer to this corner of Roman Road and may be one of the few ways to bring the surrounding community together for Christmas, so don’t miss it!
