Using light in theatrical storytelling workshop

How important is lighting in the art of theatrical storytelling? How do you get the best out of your team and create an enjoyable experience?

Local theatre-makers, Tamasha, are hosting a pay-how-you-feel online workshop looking at how you use light in theatre to tell a narrative, from the very beginning of the process to the end.

Held over Zoom and led by Jessica Hung Han Yun, you will explore compositions, basic lighting language and the power it has in different spaces, practical activities and how you can transfer that to the stage. This will be followed by a Q&A where you can ask Jessica specific questions.

Jessica is a London-based lighting designer experimenting with light in all spaces. Jessica received a Knight of Illumination Award for Plays for Equus (2019) and has been nominated for the Off West End Award for Best Lighting Design for Equus (2019) and Nine Foot Nine(2018).

This workshop is suitable for:

• For early career/aspiring designers with basic knowledge of lighting design
• For lighting designers / designers who want to further explore light as part of their practice
• For lighting designers with intermediate experience who would like a refresher in using light in storytelling
• For directors/theatre makers who want to deepen their understanding of lighting as part of their practice
• For writers who want to further understand the use of light in storytelling
